MONTHLY MEDITATION – december 2017

Over the next few months I would like to share with you some of the Vighyan Bhairav Tantra meditation techniques:

These scriptures are a legacy of techniques that Shiva gave to Devi, his consort when she asked him in a total state of love:

My beloved, in what reality do you live, what is love?

He does not answer her philosophically, he does not speak to her mind, but he develops 112 meditation techniques to enable her to understand existentially so that she may dissolve in the state of Unity….

Sixth breathing technique:

Focus on the pause during your daily activities.

“During your worldly activity, keep your attention between two breaths and,

with this practice, be born again in a few days.

During your worldly activity, keep your attention between two breaths and,

with this practice, be born again in a few days.”

During your worldly activity, keep your attention between two breaths… Forget about the breaths: keep your focus on the space between them. A breath has arrived: before it begins its way back, before it is exhaled, there comes the pause, the interval. A breath has come out; before it is taken in again, the pause. During your worldly activity, keep your focus between two breaths and with this practice, you are born again in a few days. But you need to do it all the time.

This sixth technique has to be constantly applied. That’s why it is mentioned: During your worldly activity… Regardless of what you may be doing, keep your focus on the pause between two breaths. But it must be practised during our activities.

We have talked about a similar technique. There is only this difference now, that it must be practised during our worldly activities. Don’t practice it in isolation. This practice has to be done while you are doing something else. You are eating: keep eating and pay attention to the pause. You are walking: keep walking and pay attention to the pause. You are going to sleep: lie down, let the sleep come, but keep paying attention to the pause. Why during our activity? Because activity distracts the mind, activity requires your attention over and over again. Don’t get distracted, stay focused on the pause. And don’t stop the activity, let the activity continue. You will have two layers of existence: doing and being.
