Diaphragm Massage Training

DIAPHRAGM MASSAGE: SOLAR PLEXUS RELEASE

The Diaphragm: The Muscle of Presence The diaphragm is a bridge between your individual consciousness and your consciousness connected to the totality of existence. It is the frontier between the visceral and the spiritual, between sexual energy and the energy of love, between the fire of personal passion and the tenderness of the compassionate heart. The diaphragm connects the lower and upper parts of the body through the continuous movement of the breath. Becoming aware of your diaphragm means becoming aware of how you live, integrate, and express the truth of your impulses and feelings in relation to life. It allows you to release the armouring that prevents you from fully receiving life, breathing it in deeply, and giving yourself to it completely as you exhale. We have learned to control diaphragmatic movement to such an extent that we often reduce our vitality, authenticity, and life force to a minimum, avoiding the feelings that bring us pain, insecurity, or fear. In doing so, we also close the door to joy, delight, and the ecstasy of being alive. Awareness of the diaphragm provides a clear point of listening within the body, continually returning you to your authenticity, to being truthful and honest with what you feel in each moment, and to expressing it clearly. The diaphragm is the rudder of your vessel, and when you learn to listen to it, it naturally follows the course of your truth. Releasing the diaphragm means letting go of the past stored in the body and opening yourself with courage to an unknown present waiting to be discovered. A relaxed yet toned diaphragm becomes an unfailing inner teacher, making you aware, moment by moment, of your balance or imbalance. The diaphragm also connects the sexual centre with the heart, which is one of the foundations of the Tantric path. A restricted diaphragm prevents this connection, and as a result, sexual energy cannot rise and unfold towards the higher centres, where it may be experienced as ecstasy, expansion, and union. Programme

Approaching the diaphragm means approaching the body’s nervous system. The nervous system is incredibly sensitive. It has the capacity to perceive both the conscious and the unconscious. For this reason, the attitude of the therapist when placing their hands on the receiver is essential, allowing trust, relaxation, and connection with both what is consciously felt and, perhaps more importantly, what remains unconscious.

This module is dedicated to:

• Developing awareness of yourself.
• Feeling your diaphragm muscle, giving it a voice and a means of expression.
• Observing bodies with equanimity and without judgement.
• Placing the hands on Manipūra: the first contact with the diaphragm.

The way you breathe reveals a great deal about how you move through life. Both the way we inhale and the way we exhale speak about us: our attitudes, protections, and beliefs. Learning to observe this within yourself will also help you recognise it in others.
This module is dedicated to:
  • Becoming aware of your breathing patterns.
  • Exploring the relationship between breath and the body’s natural movement.
  • Experimenting with inhalation and exhalation, and the different energetic states they generate.
  • Learning a hands-on technique to help the diaphragm release and soften.
After the conscious approach to the solar plexus, the session continues with massage of the diaphragm muscle and all the muscles involved in the flow of breathing, both from the front and from the back.
This module is dedicated to:
  • The physiology of breathing: muscles and breath. Who helps the diaphragm breathe, and who does not?
  • Massage of the body and all the soft tissues, muscles, ligaments, and nerves, that support the diaphragm in breathing.
The pressure and compression applied to the rib cage, as well as to the various bones and joints involved in breathing, are a fundamental part of Solar Plexus Massage. Equally important are mobilisation techniques, the creation of space, and the restoration of flexibility in those areas that require expansion.
This module is dedicated to:
  • Physiology and breathing: the structures (bones and joints) involved every time we inhale and exhale.
  • Diaphragm massage techniques through the ribs, sternum, clavicles, and shoulder blades.

We will spend a weekend together practising everything we have learned in a beautiful setting surrounded by nature. In addition to the massage techniques, we will explore the different emotional and psychological states that may arise during a session and learn how to support them so that emotions held within the diaphragm can be expressed in a healthy and natural way.

In Tantra, this massage technique is used to help reconnect the sexual centre with the heart, as it is often within the solar plexus that emotions become blocked and stagnant. We will also explore Tantric practices that support the process, allowing joy, pleasure, and vitality to become an integral part of the journey.

Massages

Diaphragm Massage

If your diaphragm muscle is tense, rigid, and lacking suppleness, vibration, energy, and your capacity to feel both yourself and others will struggle to move through it. This can lead to a lack of sensitivity towards yourself and those around you. Life may begin to feel rigid, as though it is a constant struggle, something that must always be pushed forward. A never-ending battle. Exhausting.

If your diaphragm lacks tone, feels weak and without strength, your breathing will tend to be shallow and restricted, unable to support the flow of prana, or vital energy, towards the upper centres of the body. When it is overly soft and lacking vitality, life may be experienced with a sense of dullness or boredom, as though the effort of living is hardly worthwhile. Yet remember: here and now, this is the only life you have.

In both cases, the body becomes divided in two, disconnected between its lower and upper regions. As a result, life is lived only partially.

With a balanced diaphragm, one that is toned, mobile, and capable of both expansion and relaxation according to the needs of each moment, you can inhabit a body that is connected to what it feels and a mind that is able to perceive and accept life as it is: challenging when it is challenging, dull when it is dull, and joyful for the rest of the journey.

Massages

Tantric Massage

The Tantric massage treats the whole body equally. From the place from which one touches, a hand, a breast, or the space between the eyebrows are all approached with the same presence and awareness. Its intention is to awaken sensation throughout the entire body, without privileging one area over another.

In Tantric massage, you breathe. With every inhalation and every exhalation, you caress yourself from within while being touched from without.

Tantric massage does not seek or pursue a particular outcome. It allows the body the freedom to feel whatever is present. Its purpose is to help the body open, so that the life force that animates it may flow freely through every corner of your being.

Tantric massage follows what is genuinely felt in each moment: pleasure or discomfort, slowness or intensity, joy or sadness. The body itself becomes the guide.

Tantric massage heals.

Tantric massage ends in the heart.

Jordi Gatell

Through Astiko’s guidance, he entered the world of Tantra, where the most important lesson he learned was that love is the only true place from which this beautiful path can be shared. Tantra is love. Tantra is presence. Tantra is transformation, a quantum leap into living from the heart.

From a very young age, he devoted himself to the healing of the body. His intention has always been to observe the body without judgement, to touch it with the utmost respect, and to go only as far as the body itself allows. To support healing through the simplicity of touch. To caress it with presence. To accompany it in its process of recovery. To witness its innate intelligence and support it so that it may restore health and wellbeing through its own wisdom.

Today, he continues this work through trainings, massage sessions, Tantra retreats, and by offering his own Diaphragm Massage Training Programme.
